Somatic Therapy is different from regular Talk Therapy because it is an approach to healing that works with both the mind and the body. Rather than focusing only on thoughts or talking through problems, it helps you notice and work with what’s happening physically inside you—sensations, tension, breathing, posture, and nervous system responses.
Why does that matter? Because many of our physical, emotional patterns—especially stress, anxiety, and trauma—are not just “in our heads.” They live in the nervous system. Somatic therapy helps your nervous system gradually feel safer, more regulated, and more flexible, so change becomes possible at a deeper level.
Somatic therapy isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about helping your system learn, unwind, and reorganize in a way that feels natural and sustainable.
Change happens not just through insight, but through lived experience in the body—where many of these patterns were formed in the first place.
What can I expect during a Somatic Therapy session?
You can expect a Somatic Therapy session to be gentle and guided. You might explore:
Body awareness (what you feel physically and emotionally in the moment)
Breath, grounding, and orienting through our senses
Noticing patterns with bodily sensations, like tightening, shutting down, or agitation
Practice slowing down to deepen awareness of your inner experience, allowing your mind and body to naturally process, integrate, and release what needs to move through
-
Your comfort and sense of safety are always the priority. Before introducing any body-based exercises, I will work with you to establish a foundation of calm and safety. At any point, you are free to slow down or stop entirely — there is no pressure to continue with anything that doesn't feel right for you.

IWith regular sessions, you can expect to experience meaningful growth in a number of ways:
A greater capacity to navigate difficult feelings and emotions
Deeper awareness of your body's signals under stress, and an increased ability to move through and integrate challenging experiences
A stronger sense of self-trust and confidence in your ability to process what life brings your way
A natural shift from reacting to responding — meeting life's experiences with more ease and intention
-
The length of therapy is entirely personal and looks different for everyone. Some people begin to feel relief and a sense of forward momentum within the first session, while others may find that deeper healing unfolds over several weeks to months. There is no set timeline — only the one that feels right for you.
-
You will never be expected to share anything you're not comfortable with or ready to explore — there are no expectations around what you reveal. As you engage in the process, any insights that emerge will do so naturally, gently shifting your experience toward a more peaceful, grounded place.

Our early experiences shape the way our bodies respond to stress, relationships, and feelings of safety — often in ways that linger long after we've gained intellectual understanding of our past. The body can continue to react as though old experiences are happening right now. Somatic therapy works by gently exploring these physical responses, helping you process those experiences more fully so you can find lasting relief.
-
Somatic therapy does not require you to relive traumatic experiences. Instead, it offers a gentler path to healing by helping you in the here and now:
Process unresolved experiences without retraumatization
Shift automatic fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown responses
Cultivate new feelings of safety and choice within your body
Somatic therapy works by helping you recognize and understand the physical and emotional patterns your body holds — especially those that surface under stress or perceived threat. By becoming familiar with how your body responds, you can begin to build a deeper relationship with yourself, meet physical sensations with curiosity and compassion, and work through automatic reactions in a safe, supported way. Over time, you'll develop a greater sense of awareness of your mind-body connection, making it easier to move through life's challenges with greater ease and resilience.

Item descriptionProgress in therapy often shows up in subtle, but meaningful ways — a sense of feeling less reactive, more present, and more at ease. You may notice lighter breathing, an expansiveness, a softening of tension in your body, or a shift in how you see a situation or yourself that once felt overwhelming.
